Personal Profile

My name is Emma, I live in west Central Scotland and I’m thirty-something. After working as a veterinary surgeon for several years now, it is time for me to move on to other careers and I’ve always been passionate about reading and writing. My current supervisor is my cat, Echo and Turtwig the tortoise is my grumpy security guard.

I have a number of hobbies through which I can express my creative side. Along with running this site, I run an online crochet and handmade craft business, selling items I have made and patterns I have created. If you are interested, you can visit the website here. I also enjoy reading and writing, so I am currently working on my debut novel. Recently I have been dabbling in gardening, which has the added bonus of providing free food for my tortoise!

Qualifications and Experience Profile

I have just completed a diploma with the College of Media and Publishing in proofreading and copy-editing. I graduated with distinction and scored highly in all of my assignments. The course was very enjoyable to study and it has solidified and formalised my skills. I would recommend them highly, as I had a great experience studying with them. Check them out here.

I am working through the additional optional modules from this course to further improve my skills. These modules include proofreading on paper, learning the symbols and method for performing this, editing fiction and editing academic writing.

I have gained quite a bit of experience throughout my academic career, both at university and during my recent study with CMP. This has enabled me to become familiar with formal academic writing styles as well as less formal content such as blog posts, social media and writing for fun. I have produced study guides and information for student veterinary nurses as well as proofreading and coaching for written assignments. I have written a lot of fiction for personal pleasure and to share with friends, and have provided beta reading and editing help for friends as well.

I can provide a reference from the College of Media and Publishing on request. As I build my portfolio of work, I will be able to provide references from clients as well as testimonials and reviews. My blog demonstrates my writing style and abilities as well as giving insight into my work process and who I am. I have also joined the CIEP (Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading) as an Entry Level member, and I am currently working through additional training with them to upgrade my membership.
