Welcome! I’m Emma, a writer, proof reader, editor and gamer. I spent 15 years working as a veterinary surgeon but no longer do so. Chronic pain and illness have forced me to step down from working as a vet. I have always had a passion for reading and writing and have dreamt of writing books. It’s time to embrace my love of learning and teaching, so I decided to start a website and blog. So I want to assemble a collection of helpful resources for writers like me. I have experience and knowledge of a wide range of animal and medicine related subjects.
About Me
I’ll tell you a wee bit about me. I’m Scottish, and I live with my two pets. Echo, pictured below, is my cat. She’s about 11 years old now and by my side constantly while I write. I also have a pet Hermann’s tortoise called Turtwig. He is also about 11 years old and very grouchy! I also spend a lot of my free time gaming and crafting. I design crochet patterns and occasionally cosplays as well.

What I Write About
My blog covers a variety of topics related to writing, editing, proofreading and world-building. I fully believe in making information like this available to all. I don’t believe in gatekeeping and hiding resources for no good reason. Everything I publish is freely available for anyone to use, and may not be reproduced or sold by anyone else. If you find it useful, please share the link so others can make use of these helpful resources for writers.

My Writer’s Resource Aims
My experience in the veterinary field has led to an accumulation of knowledge of a wide range of animal species. I was never afraid of ‘exotic pets’ and embraced the challenges involved in treating the more unusual companion animals. Different species have different physiology and I’ve always been fascinated by the differences. I also love creating new types of creatures for my fantasy worlds and exploring the roots of those created by others.
As a vet, I have extensive medical knowledge as well, which could be very useful to my fellow writers. All authors know that their search history can be a bit ‘colourful’ at times and could end up with us being put on a watchlist of some kind! I’m here to help with that, as I could very well have the answers you need right here.
There’s no gatekeeping here either. I am providing these resources for free. I want to make them as accessible as possible for all writers. There will be both a written format with text, diagrams and infographics, and video format with infographics and an explanation from yours truly. If there are any specific subjects you wish me to cover, or if you have any questions at all, please feel free to get in touch. I make these resources for writers like myself, who maybe need a clear explanation for things.
My Own Writing Journey
I’m in the process of writing my own novels. There are two works in progress, one a dark fantasy with a little hint of queer romance and an eclectic cast of characters. The other is a supernatural horror centered around an abandoned theme park with fairy tale themes. They are still in the early stages of the first draft, plotting and world building. Once I’ve made more progress, I will share updates on them, including some sneak previews.
I have two first drafts complete and I am in the process of starting developmental editing on these. I am excited to be able to share more of my writing journey with you all going forward. The best place for this kind of news is to visit my social media profiles, where I update regularly on my work.
I also have a YouTube Channel where I share lots of science facts and discuss worldbuilding and lore from my favourite video games. If you are a Fallout fan, you’ll find it very interesting. You can check it out here.
Helpful Resources for Writers
This area of the site is under construction so check back regularly for updates. I will be providing all kinds of animal and medical resources to help writers and other creatives with their world building. If you have a specific topic you’d like to see covered, get in touch and I’ll see what I can do!

Blood Sugar Regulation Hormones
The body needs energy to function. This energy must be obtained from food, processed and metabolised so it is ready for the cells to use.
